Petrified Wood Slice from Madagascar for Sale – Millions of Years of History in One Piece

A Petrified Wood Slice from Madagascar is a true wonder of nature: organic wood that, over millions of years, was completely replaced by minerals – mostly silicon dioxide – through geological processes, thereby preserving a stony image of its former shape. Each slice visibly carries the growth rings, grain, and structures of the original tree – an unchanging witness of past geological ages, valued today as an extraordinary decorative piece, collector's item, and energetic companion.

Formation and Characteristics – What Makes This Fossil So Special?

Petrified wood forms when dead trees are buried under sediment layers and slowly, cell by cell, replaced by quartz or other minerals through mineral-rich groundwater. This process takes hundreds of thousands to millions of years. The result is a stone that preserves the complete structure of a tree – including bark, growth rings, and branch bases. The slices from Madagascar captivate with their characteristic hues, which, depending on the mineral composition, can range from warm brown and beige to cream white to reddish terracotta tones.

• Material: Petrified wood (silicified wood / silica wood), predominantly quartz and other silicates
• Origin: Madagascar – one of the most mineral-rich island regions in the world
• Appearance: Visible wood structure with growth rings, natural grain, individual one-of-a-kind piece
• Surface: Depending on processing, polished or natural – both variants emphasize the unique texture
• Size & Weight: Varies depending on the piece – each slice is a hand-selected individual piece
• Hardness: Due to its quartz content very hard and robust, extremely durable

Care and Handling of Your Petrified Wood Slice

Since this is a fully mineralized fossil, care is remarkably simple. Petrified wood is water-resistant and insensitive to most environmental influences. Nevertheless, we recommend the following tips so your slice retains its full beauty for a long time:

1. Occasionally clean the slice with a slightly damp, soft cloth.
2. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents or abrasives to protect the polished surface.
3. Do not place the slice permanently in direct, intense sunlight – this can affect the natural color tones over time.
4. Place it on a non-slip surface if displayed as decoration, to avoid scratches on sensitive furniture surfaces.
