Instability: When heated to temperatures up to 300 °C, the water of crystallization contained in natrolite can be almost completely expelled; however, after cooling, the mineral is able to reabsorb it. Natrolite is soluble in hydrochloric acid, and silicic acid (silica jelly) precipitates.

Morphology: Develops predominantly long-prismatic to needle-like or hair-like crystals, which are often associated to radially radiating mineral aggregates.

The natrolite we offer comes from the renowned Aris quarries, located approximately 25 km south of the Namibian capital, Windhoek. These quarries are known for their phonolite deposits, which contain numerous, unusually mineral-rich cavities. The Aris quarries are type localities for several rare minerals and offer an impressive variety of crystalline treasures. Mining takes place in two main quarries: the Ariskop Quarry (east of the Windhoek–Rehoboth road) and the Railway Quarry (west of the road, near the Windhoek–Karasburg–Nakop railway line). These phonolites contain miarolitic cavities filled with secondary mineral phases such as natrolite. The crystals reach sizes of up to 4 mm and are characterized by their prismatic shape and white to gray color.
