Lapis Lazuli is a deep blue metamorphic stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. Here are some details:
- Color: Lapis Lazuli is mainly blue, but can also show white or golden streaks caused by other minerals.
- Composition: It consists mainly of the minerals lazurite, pyrite and calcite. The golden-colored specks are caused by pyrite and can be very attractive.
- Use: Lapis Lazuli has been used as a semi-precious stone, sculpture material, pigment, and ornamental material. It has also been used in medicine and religious ceremonies.
- History: Lapis Lazuli was already mined in the 7th millennium BC in the Sar-i Sang mines and other mines in what is now the northeastern province of Badakhshan in Afghanistan. It was used in the burial mask of Tutankhamun (1341–1323 BC).
- Meaning: Its deep, heavenly blue tone remains the symbol of royalty and honor, gods and power, spirit and vision. It is a universal symbol of wisdom and truth.
Please note that the quality of Lapis Lazuli varies and high-quality Lapis Lazuli can be a costly gemstone.
Lazurite is a mineral from the tectosilicate mineral class with sulfate, sulfur and chloride with the formula (Na,Ca)8[(S,Cl,SO4,OH)2|(Al6Si6O24)]. It is a feldspathoid and belongs to the sodalite group. Lazurite crystallizes in the isometric system, although well-formed crystals are rare. It is usually massive and forms the majority of the gemstone Lapis Lazuli.
The color of the mineral is typically a deep blue, often speckled with white and gold. It has a hardness of 5.5-6 on the Mohs scale, meaning it can be scratched by materials with a higher hardness, such as quartz. Lazurite also has a glassy to greasy luster and a specific density of 2.4-2.5.
Lazurite has a variety of applications, both practical and decorative. One of its most common uses is in the production of pigments for paints and dyes. The deep blue color of lazurite is highly sought after in these industries and is often used to create shades of blue that cannot be achieved with other pigments. Lazurite is also used as a decorative stone in jewelry and sculptures. It is often polished and cut into cabochons or other shapes to showcase its beautiful blue color.
If you like, take a look around: I also have tourmalines, agates, rock crystal and pyrite.
The matching accessories are available in the shop – for a presentation worthy of this piece.
Please note that the effects of gemstones and minerals are not scientifically proven and should therefore not be regarded as a substitute for medical treatment or therapy. These are traditions and beliefs that everyone can interpret and apply for themselves.
