Buy Septarian – the fascinating stone with a story

Septarian is one of the most extraordinary minerals of all: This earthy, oval concretion stone only reveals its true face when cut open – an intricate network of golden to amber-colored calcite veins, stretching like an ancient map through gray to brownish clay opalite. Septarian forms through a geological process that dates back millions of years, making it far more than just a beautiful stone: It is a window into Earth's history.
At Crystal Paradise, we personally select each septarian – in our showroom in Feldkirchen near Munich and at mineral fairs. Our many years of dealer experience ensure that only pieces with true pattern quality and authentic origin make it into our shop.
What exactly is Septarian?
Septarian are sedimentary concretions – spherical to oval formations of clay minerals that formed approximately 50 to 70 million years ago in marine deposits. As they dried out, characteristic cracks formed inside, which filled with calcite, aragonite, or sometimes barite. The result is the typical, lattice-like vein pattern that makes each septarian absolutely unique. No two stones are alike – neither in color nor in pattern. Well-known deposits are found in Morocco, the USA (Utah), and parts of Europe, among others. You can learn more about the diversity of the mineral world on Wikipedia: Septarian.
