In short: Munich has two kinds of places to look, and the difference determines what you get. Specialty mineral shops carry specimens with origin information and offer mineralogical advice — these include Kristallgarten Maucher in Pasing, Kristalldruse on Oberanger, and our own showroom in Feldkirchen. Shops with a spiritual assortment like Calerris carry minerals alongside incense, singing bowls, and tarot — one of the two locations is explicitly run as a specialty mineral shop. Then there's the Munich Show in October and the Münchener Mineralienfreunde.

The distinction that matters

The decisive question when buying isn't the price, but whether someone can say where a stone comes from. A specialty shop notes the country of origin and, where possible, the mine; a shop with a mixed assortment buys wholesale and often can no longer trace the origin. Both have their place — a tumbled stone doesn't need an origin statement, but a collector's specimen does.

Second point: treatments. Burned amethyst sold as citrine, dyed agate, fiber-optic glass sold as tiger's eye — this is common in the trade and not inherently dishonest, as long as it's disclosed. If you ask about it and don't get a clear answer, you should be cautious.

Kristallgarten Maucher, Pasing

According to its own claim, the oldest specialty mineral shop in southern Germany, in Munich since 1909. The shop is located right in Pasing, about one minute from the train station. Assortment: minerals, fossils, healing stones, jewelry, and objects made of natural stone. Address: Gleichmannstr. 9 (courtyard), 81241 Munich, phone 089 88 04 85. The website doesn't list opening hours — it's worth calling ahead of a visit.

Kristalldruse, Oberanger 6

In the city center since 1970, near Sendlinger Strasse. Address: Oberanger 6, 80331 Munich, phone 089 260 40 18. Besides selling minerals, gemstones, and jewelry, the shop offers a buying service and its own workshop — that's rare in Munich and worth knowing about if you want to sell off an inherited collection or have stones set.

Crystal Paradise Showroom, Feldkirchen

Our own showroom is located in Feldkirchen near Munich, about ten minutes by car east of the city limits. The focus is on individual pieces with documented origin: For nearly every piece, the country of origin and, where known, the exact site are recorded. About 70 percent of the assortment consists of raw stones and specimens. Since we're a vendor ourselves here, this isn't a neutral recommendation but a classification: if you're looking for cut goods and jewelry, you're better served downtown.

Calerris

Two locations in central Munich, with different focuses: Pestalozzistrasse 21 in the Glockenbach neighborhood runs the shop, by its own description, as a specialty mineral shop with "Munich's largest selection of gemstones and minerals"; Kreuzstrasse 4 near Sendlinger Tor is set up as a "spiritual oasis" focused on incense, singing bowls, essential oils, and tarot. Trade shows and clubs

Munich Show

Europe's most important mineral show, held every year in October at Messe München. Most recently 1,157 exhibitors from 67 countries across 50,000 square meters in five halls, visited by around 48,000 people. For collectors, by far the largest selection of the year — from mine operators to museum dealers. If you're looking for a specific piece, you're more likely to find it here than in any shop. In 2026 it runs from October 22 to 25; further dates are in our trade show calendar.

Münchener Mineralienfreunde e.V.

A nonprofit club where, by its own account, collectors of all generations have been meeting for over 50 years — with more than 300 members. For beginners, the most affordable way to gain expertise: lecture evenings, help with identification, field trips, and swap meets. Anyone serious about collecting learns more there than in any shop — and often gets pieces cheaper than in the trade.

What this overview is not

It's not complete. Industry directories list around twenty entries for "gemstones" in Munich; most of them are jewelry stores, gold buyers, or online retailers without a physical shop. Are there minerals in Munich with a documented find site?

Yes, but not everywhere. For mass-produced material like amethyst from Uruguay or Brazil, the specific mine is usually no longer known in the wholesale trade — there it's honestly labeled "mine unknown." For smaller find regions like Brandberg in Namibia or Las Vigas in Mexico, the find site can usually be documented. If this matters to you, you should specifically ask about it.
